Antrix Undertakes Activities of Social Relevance

Antrix Corporation Limited (ACL), the commercial and marketing arm of ISRO, is engaged in providing Space products and services to international customers worldwide. With fully equipped state-of-the-art facilities, Antrix provides end-to-end solution for many of the space products, ranging from supply of hardware and software including simple subsystems to a complex spacecraft, for varied applications covering communications, earth observation and scientific missions; space related services including remote sensing data service, Transponder lease service; Launch services through the operational launch vehicles (PSLV and GSLV); Mission support services; and a host of consultancy and training services.

ACL has formulated its Corporate Social Responsibility & Sustainability Development (CSR & SD) Policy, in June 2014 with CSR vision "To contribute to the orderly growth and development of the society by taking measures towards eradication of poverty, removal of illiteracy and raising the standards of living so that the economic divide is narrowed and equal opportunities abound for all, irrespective of caste, creed or economic status".

ACL is undertaking activities of social relevance in the field of Sanitation, Healthcare, Education, Drinking Water, Support to differently abled persons, Village Adoption, Women Empowerment, Watershed Development etc., as part of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) in order to enhance the quality of life, economic well being of the rural community and provide basic amenities in the backward areas.

Besides, ACL is also contributing to the National programs like flood disaster relief and re-construction activities, River Clean Ganga program, Care and Re-habilitation of destitute children, Development of Sports, etc.

  1. Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan

ACL has given priority to Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan and provides Sanitation facilities. ACL is involved in constructing school toilets in the Government Primary Schools particularly for the girls in rural areas. This activity has created awareness about sanitation and use of toilets, which resulted in stopping of open defecation and maintain clean environment. It has inculcated cleanliness and hygiene aspects in the minds of the school 

It is also constructing community toilets mostly in Government Hospitals, to eradicate open-air defecation, which is causing environmental pollution and breeding of diseases. The patients coming for the treatment, as well as the attendants coming along with them have been benefited by this facility, which resulted in keeping the premises clean and hygienic.

Towards promoting the cleanliness and hygiene in the villages, ACL is constructing household toilets for the Below Poverty Line (BPL) families. This activity has been undertaken in Bramhasandra village to make it Open Defecation Free (ODF) village.

Sewerage Treatment Plant (STP) has been set up and operationalised in the drought hit area for the judicious usage and management of scarce water resource. An orphanage school in Bidar district of Karnataka was also got benefited with this programme.

  1. Empowering the Disabled persons

Another important activity of ACL CSR is the Distribution of Appliances and Assistive devices to the persons who are identified with orthopedically, visually and hearing disabilities through Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India, a PSU to empower the differently abled persons. So far more than 1400 people have been benefited in Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Various appliances like Battery Operated Motorised Tricycles, Wheelchairs, Tricycles, Axilla/Elbow, Crutches, Walking Sticks, Rollators for Orthopedically Impaired persons, Behind The Ear - Hearing Aid Machines, Smart Canes, Smart Phone, Daisy Player, Braille Cane, MSID kit, have been distributed in the camp for different kind of disabilities.

  1. Village Adoption By ACL

Bramhasandra Village in Sira taluk, Tumkur district, Karnataka, has been adopted by ACL to make it a Model village through Socio-economic and technical interventions through BAIF - an NGO.  Through Participatory Rural Appraisal (PRA) exercise and need assessment, action plans have been generated for sustainable development through implementation of activities over a period of 3 years. Activities like Tank Rejuvenation, Household Toilets to make village ODF, Rain Water Harvesting, Agro-Forestry, Income generating Activities, Livestock Development, Harnessing Solar Energy, Organic Farming, Skill Development etc., are being implemented. Training and Exposure visits have been organised for the community members of the village to create awareness and build confidence.

  1. Health Care Support

ACL joins hands with Cure International to treat children affected by clubfoot deformity. These children are taking the treatment in Indira Gandhi Institute of Child Health Government Hospital, Bengaluru. Antrix health care is supporting 150 such affected children who are from poor families of Karnataka.

  1. Contributions to the National Development

ACL is contributing financially to the disaster relief and rehabilitation measures in the affected areas in the country through CSR activities. Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir States have aided re-construction of dwellings of the displaced families, and restoring infrastructure through this support.

CSR Programme has also contributed towards maintaining the communal harmony, which helps the displaced persons and victims of communal disturbances, in finding avenues for supporting their education and vocation, and in-turn help in their re-habilitation.

ACL is also contributing to the Ministry of Water Resources for River Clean Ganga program and to the Ministry of Sports and Youth Affairs for the development of Sports in the country.

ACL was conferred with “Outstanding CSR Project Award” by Delhi Management Association (DMA) & Indian Institute of Corporate Affairs during last year.
